The Apple Harvest Festival returns to Southington for its 55th year

The Southington Apple Harvest Festival kicked off this weekend at the Southington Town Green.

There was fun for all ages including apple-themed food, rides, local vendors and live entertainment.

Admission and parking for the six-day event are free. The event has become one of Connecticut's top tourist events, spotlighting the area as it enters the peak of fall foliage.

As always, the apple harvest festival attracted many people. Organizers say the festival typically attracts about 100,000 visitors.

“My favorite activity is the apple pie eating contest,” said Apple Harvest Ambassador Andrew Percival. “I am a three-time winner of the apple fritter eating competition. It’s my favorite thing in the world.”

The festival continues with a parade on Sunday and October 11th, 12th and 13th.
