Man was found guilty of murder in connection with the 2019 hammer attack death of his estranged wife

A jury has found a 47-year-old man guilty of breaking into his estranged wife's North Adams home in 2019 and attacking her with a hammer, which led to her death by a hammer five months later, according to the Berkshire County District Attorney's Office brain injury.

On Friday, Michael Cook Sr. was convicted of second-degree murder, armed assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury and assault on a family or household member in Berkshire County Superior Court, the Berkshire County Superior Court said Public prosecutor's office in a press release.

On the evening of July 11, 2019, Cook broke into the home of his estranged wife, 41-year-old Charli Cook, and hit her in the back of the head with a hammer as she lay in her bed, prosecutors said. The attack caused a traumatic brain injury and she died five months after the attack.

The chief medical examiner's office determined that Charli Cook died as a result of the hammer attack, prosecutors said. Michael Cook is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, October 10th in Berkshire County Superior Court.
