Man arrested after death threats: 'I'll smash your face in'

A Rancho El Dorado man is in jail after threatening to murder a woman.

Maricopa police arrested 34-year-old Jarel Lewis on Wednesday for disorderly conduct and criminal damage at his home on Hillman Drive, where a woman reported Lewis vandalized the home and tried to kill her.

The victim said the disturbances began when she confronted Lewis about his laziness.

According to a probable cause statement obtained by In MaricopaLewis responded by shouting: “I’ll break your face.”

Lewis then allegedly pushed her, broke the chair she was sitting on and continued to scream, “I'm going to smash your face in.”

At this point, the woman reportedly tried to run away and Lewis followed her, destroying the house in the process.

Police documents show Lewis threw a coffee table and a trash can. He allegedly grabbed the collar of the woman's shirt when she asked him to stop breaking things.

Lewis then grabbed her purse, which she said contained a gun, and told her: “I'm ready to die.”

He didn't point the gun at her.

Lewis told officers the woman woke up in a bad mood, which led to the altercation. He admitted turning the tables but said it was his right as he “paid for it”.

Lewis claimed the woman said she would kill him.

Some concerned neighbors who heard the attack walked out of their homes, police noted.

Lewis was arrested and taken to the Pinal County Jail where he faces one year in prison.
