Cohoes man arrested on drug charges following joint agency investigation

A Cohoes man was arrested Wednesday on drug charges following a joint investigation by authorities.

Byron L. Robinson, 42, was charged with one count of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The charges reportedly stem from two search warrants executed by the Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office Emergency Services Unit in conjunction with the Cohoes Police Department.

According to a news release, the search warrants were executed at Manor Sites and McElwain Avenue in Cohoes in connection with an investigation focused on the sale of cocaine and fentanyl. At the above locations, authorities found Robinson in possession of more than 10 grams of cocaine, a set of brass knuckles, a large-capacity magazine, and packaging materials and scales.

“Interagency cooperation is critical in our fight against the fentanyl epidemic and the pervasive sale of narcotics,” said Sheriff Kyle Bourgault. “By combining our resources and expertise, we can dismantle these networks, protect our communities and create a safer environment for everyone.”

Robinson was taken into custody, arraigned in Cohoe Municipal Court and sent back to the Albany County Jail in lieu of bail. Court records show he is due back in court on Tuesday.
