Suspect arrested, two officers injured after hours-long standoff in Waukesha

WAUKESHA, Wis. – A suspect is in custody and two police officers were injured after reports of domestic violence led to an hours-long standoff between Waukesha police and a barricaded suspect Saturday.

Waukesha police said they responded to the 300 block of S. Moreland Blvd just before 1 p.m. Saturday. Reacts.

According to a police news release, a caller told police the suspect “threatened to kill and choke her.”

Police said no weapons were displayed during the incident, but the caller also told police the suspect had access to a firearm.

The caller fled the house, followed by the suspect.

Police said the suspect reportedly attempted to run over the caller with his car and unsuccessfully attempted to lure her into his vehicle.

When officers arrived at the home, police said the suspect was back home and attempting to leave the scene in a vehicle.

Police asked the suspect to surrender, but the suspect ran into the house and barricaded himself inside.

Members of the Waukesha Police Tactical Unit were among several other teams and law enforcement agencies who responded.

Police said they tried to de-escalate the situation for about five hours before “CS gas was used in the residence to encourage the suspect to exit the home.”

Police said the suspect still refused to come out. Police then deployed a K9 into the home and arrested the man in the basement. The suspect was taken into custody and then transported to Waukesha Memorial Hospital for medical clearance.

Police said he will eventually be taken to the Waukesha County Jail on several domestic charges.

The victim of the domestic violence incident suffered minor injuries.

Two officers were injured during the suspect's arrest and were taken to Waukesha Memorial Hospital for treatment.

One officer suffered a minor injury to his calf and the other officer suffered a minor injury to his knee.

Several roads in the area were closed and blocked by investigators for much of the day Saturday. The crime scene has now been cleared up.
