Tamil Nadu Governor Criticizes Police Over Lack of Synthetic Drug Seizures | Madurai News

Madurai: Governor of Tamil Nadu RN Ravi said that Tamil Nadu Police do not confiscate high value synthetic drugs as the central authorities do and that most of their seizures are like this Ganja. “They are unable to seize even a gram of synthetic drugs,” he said at a news conference Anti-drug conference in Tenkasi, organized by local forums.
Ravi said many youths try chemical and synthetic drugs for fun and become addicted to them, leading to crimes. The situation is also bad in Tamil Nadu. “In neighboring states, the drug problem is related to synthetic drugs like meth, heroin and opium, but in Tamil Nadu we only talk about ganja,” he said, admitting that ganja is dangerous and should be eradicated.
“How is it that central authorities can seize hundreds of kilograms of these drugs (in Tennessee) while our state law enforcement agencies cannot seize even one gram,” the governor asked. Pakistan supplies drugs to sustain its narco-terrorism. Drug cartels of which central and state authorities were aware operate from Pakistan, Tamil Nadu and Dubai. “They used to say that India is just a transit country, but they misled us. Not the entire quantity is in transit but is made available for consumption, which is a serious problem,” Ravi said, calling for a mass movement along with the government to contain it.
Former Chennai mayor Saidai Duraisamy and Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu were also on the panel. Earlier, there was an anti-drug rally in which youths walked two kilometers to the conference venue.
