Two University of Maryland Eastern Shore students die in a car accident

Two college students have died after a car crash in Seaford, Delaware, and two others remain in critical condition.

The two-car collision occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Four University of Maryland Eastern Shore students were in one of the vehicles.

An 18-year-old freshman student from Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, and an unenrolled third-grader from Fayetteville, North Carolina, died in the crash.

A 22-year-old junior from Washington, D.C., and another 18-year-old freshman from Bethesda are in critical condition.

The university will not release students' names until their families give permission.

“We mourn the loss of our UMES students and pray for the other injured students [to] “We will fully recover,” UMES President Hiedi Anderson said in a statement.

Another vehicle crashed into the college student's car and was traveling the wrong way on the Sussex Highway.

Delaware State Police said the driver and passenger of that vehicle were also taken to the hospital, one with serious injuries and the other with life-threatening injuries.

Police added that impairment was a suspected factor.

UMES will provide counselors for staff, students and faculty following this accident.
