The writer/director of “Smile” and “Smile 2” envisions expanding the franchise with increasingly unusual sequels

Writer/director Parker Finn's sequel to his 2022 horror film “Smile” (read our review here, watch the film here) is about to hit theaters on October 18, and tickets to screenings of “Smile 2” are on sale now. Ahead of the film's release, Finn did an interview with SFX magazine in which he not only revealed that this sequel uses ideas that he wasn't able to implement in the first film, but also that he imagines that Franchise continues with increasingly unconventional sequels!

“Smile” is based on Finn's short film “Laura Hasn't Slept” (watch here), which won the Special Jury Prize in the Midnight Short category at SXSW. Caitlin Stasey (“Neighbors”) played the title character in that short and reprises the role in “Smile,” making the film a sequel of sorts.
