Oregon man accused of spitting on and biting prison guard

Oct. 1 – An Oregon man is charged for allegedly spitting on and biting an officer at the Lincoln County Detention Center.

Danford Winston Hendrix, 31, pleaded not guilty Monday in district court to felony charges of assault on a peace officer and misdemeanor battery.

Court officials said Hendrix was initially arrested and taken to jail following a public nuisance complaint. These charges were dropped.

According to county Deputy Brandon Huff's probable cause statement, he was called to the detention center at approximately 8:50 p.m. on September 8 to investigate an alleged attack on a prison guard.

Huff allegedly watched a video that showed Hendrix biting a police officer's hand. Huff noted that the bite pierced a glove and penetrated her skin, resulting in a bleeding wound that required medical attention.

Huff reported the bite was the result of Hendrix allegedly spitting on the detention officer.

Hendrix's next hearing is scheduled for October 21.

A felony conviction can result in a minimum of two or a maximum of 10 years in prison in the Montana State Prison.
