1 injured, 1 arrested in shooting outside Orangeburg County Fair

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCSC) – Orangeburg County Fair officials have confirmed that one person was injured when someone fired shots outside the fair Saturday evening.

In a statement, the fair said there was a report of shots fired when the fair was closing early because there were “multiple incidents of disorderly conduct by youth groups.”

They say a victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, but the fair did not say whether the person was shot or otherwise injured.

“Multiple law enforcement agencies quickly responded to the incident and the suspect was immediately arrested,” the statement said.

The statement did not mention the name of the person arrested or the charges the suspect is facing.

Due to the incidents, fair staff decided to close all attractions and close the fair at approximately 10:35 p.m.

“The Orangeburg County Fair Association is disappointed and outraged that anyone would choose to commit acts of violence at a family-oriented event. The fair has prided itself on providing a safe, family-friendly environment for 113 years,” the statement continued. “The Orangeburg County Fair Association Board of Directors is closely reviewing this incident to determine whether changes should be made to further ensure the safety and well-being of our guests, our employees and our community.”

The fair said it would not comment further due to the ongoing law enforcement investigation.

The fair was open for regular operations on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m
