Police said the incident took place on Friday and the deceased has been identified as Nitin Edwin Michael, a senior analyst at HCL Technologies.

An officer from Sonegaon police station said the man was found lifeless after he entered the washroom at the company's office in Mihan area around 7pm on Friday.

His colleagues immediately rushed him to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Nagpur, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, according to the official.

The Sonegaon police have sent the body for post-mortem and registered a case of accidental death. Initial autopsy results suggested the man died of cardiac arrest, a police official said.

The police are investigating the circumstances of his death. Michael leaves behind his wife and their six-year-old son, according to the police.

What did HCL say?

“This is an unfortunate incident and a tragic loss. We express our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased employee and will provide them with all possible help. In this incident, the employee received emergency medical attention at the campus health clinic and was transported to the hospital. “The well-being of our employees is a top priority and HCLTech offers wellness programs for all employees and their families, including on-campus clinics and annual health screenings,” an HCLTech spokesperson said.

Earlier on Tuesday, an employee of HDFC Bank in Lucknow was reported to have died due to work pressure. The employee, identified as Sadaf Fatima, has been posted as additional assistant vice president at HDFC Bank's Vibuti Khand branch in Gomti Nagar.

Fatima died in office after falling from her chair in the bank building, citing unnamed colleagues. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead and her body underwent a post-mortem.

Reacting to the incident, Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav said work pressure and stress had become the same everywhere, from government to private workplaces, and people were working out of “compulsion”.

Anna Sebastian Perayil, a chartered accountant (CA) from Kerala who worked at EY Pune, died of cardiac arrest on June 20 due to excessive workload and poor work culture at the company – her mother claimed.

In an open letter, Anna's mother described her daughter's struggles with anxiety, insomnia and stress due to an overwhelming workload, citing instances where her manager prioritized work over employee well-being.
