US bombs Syria, killing 37 terrorists, including senior ISIS leaders

The US carried out precision strikes in Syria on Sunday, killing 37 terrorists, including senior Islamic State leaders.

In a statement, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said: “CENTCOM forces conducted two targeted strikes in Syria, killing 37 terrorists, including several senior leaders of the terrorist organizations ISIS and Hurras al-Din, an al-Qaeda affiliate.”

The statement added that the airstrikes were part of CENTCOM's ongoing commitment, “along with partners in the region, to plan, organize and execute terrorist efforts to attack civilians and military personnel from the United States, our allies, etc “To disrupt and weaken our partners across the region and beyond,” the press release added.

On September 24, CENTCOM had carried out a targeted attack in northwestern Syria, killing nine terrorists, including Marwan Bassam 'Abd-al-Ra'uf, a senior leader of Hurras al-Din, an al-Qaeda-affiliated organization, which is responsible for military operations in Syria.

This attack follows an earlier successful operation in which another Hurras al-Din leader, Abu-'Abd al-Rahman al Makki, was killed. CENTCOM also reported a large-scale airstrike on September 16 on an ISIS training camp in central Syria that killed at least 28 ISIS operatives, including four senior leaders.

Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, commander of CENTCOM, emphasized that these attacks reflect the U.S. commitment to defeat terrorist organizations in the region, noting that there were no civilian casualties in these operations.

About 900 U.S. forces are stationed in Syria, along with an unknown number of contractors, whose primary mission is to prevent the resurgence of the extremist ISIS group, which captured large areas of Iraq and Syria in 2014. Times of Israel reported.

U.S. forces are advising and supporting their key allies in northeast Syria, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, who are operating near critical regions where Iranian-backed terrorist groups are active, including a key border crossing with Iraq.
