Steven Galcsik refused bail over the alleged domestic violence murder of his wife Natalie at the Hunter Valley B&B

A Hunter Valley man has been refused bail after being charged with the domestic violence murder of his wife.

Steven Galcsik, 47, is accused of killing his wife Natalie, 46, at their Pokolbin bed and breakfast property on the night of September 27.

Mr Galcsik remained in cells at the Newcastle Magistrates' Court as his case was heard in the Magistrates Court.

There was no bail application and this was formally refused by Judge Ian Cheetham, who ordered that a police warrant must be served within eight weeks.

A police charge sheet submitted to the court said the alleged domestic violence murder occurred within 15 minutes.

Shortly afterwards, the police arrived and found the 46-year-old woman with significant injuries.

It was described as a “confrontational scene” for emergency responders who attended.

The police indictment showed that Mr. Galcsik was arrested within an hour of his wife's death.

“Absolutely devastating”

Cessnock mayor-elect Daniel Watton said the incident was tragic and shocked the communities of Cessnock and Pokolbin.

“Absolutely devastating. A big impact, not just for the family itself.” [although] Obviously my thoughts and prayers are with the family,” he said.

“It’s a close-knit community. Cessnock only has 65,000 tops and so this news is really spreading pretty quickly and devastating the community as a whole.”

Mr Galcsik is due back in Newcastle Magistrates Court on November 27.

Detectives from Hunter Valley Police District have deployed Strike Force Stockport to investigate the death and are appealing for witnesses.
