Police investigate fatal pedestrian accident involving a Maryland State Trooper

Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred Sunday evening in Anne Arundel County. A 32-year-old woman was struck and killed by a Maryland State Police trooper on Solomons Island Road near Route 50. Rescue workers pronounced her dead at the scene. Her identity is being kept secret until her family is notified.

The incident occurred on September 29, 2024 at around 7:30 p.m. According to a preliminary investigation, the woman unexpectedly entered the roadway and was struck by an unmarked 2016 Ford Explorer driven by a Maryland State Police trooper. There is no zebra crossing at the accident site.

The uninjured police officer immediately administered first aid and called for further help. The Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration assisted with the road closure following the accident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Maryland State Police Crash Team. Once the investigation is complete, the results will be reviewed by the Anne Arundel County Prosecutor's Office. Additionally, an administrative review will be conducted by the Maryland State Police in accordance with standard operating procedure.
