Google strengthens its flagship with the new Pixel 9a, leaks now share a revised design

The recent Made by Google event introduced its flagship Pixel 9 series to the world in three available variants. Still, new leaks claim that the Big Tech company is already working on its next budget smartphone release, the Pixel 9a. A new render recently surfaced online, delivering a sleek new look that brings significant changes compared to the previous Pixel 8a.

Like previous launch dates and the availability of previous budget smartphone versions of the Pixel, the new 9a is expected to launch in the spring of next year, close to Google's annual I/O event.

Google Pixel 9a renders leak, shares new look

A new leak from the renowned duo Android Headlines and OnLeaks releases a new render of the Google Pixel 9a that features a new design for the device and does not follow in the footsteps of its main version. The iconic bar that housed the Pixel series cameras is now gone, offering a slimmer rear profile that puts the rear lenses and flash units in their usual location.

It may be a different take on the Pixel series and may be one of the most noticeable changes. However, it's still a functional experience for users, especially those who prefer the cleaner, integrated look.

Additionally, this would be the first time that an “a” series device would have two camera lenses instead of one, thus offering the possibility of setting up the primary and ultra-wide dual camera setup.

What can you expect from Google's budget Pixel?

Based on recent leaks, Google has equipped the Pixel 9a with noticeable bezels, and while this may be a problem for some, it could be one of the factors that make this smartphone cheaper compared to the main Pixel 9 model.

Google is also expected to launch the Pixel 9a with Android 15, the smartphone operating system version that is currently unavailable as it is still in beta. Additionally, it was announced that the Pixel 9a would be priced in the sub-$500 range.

Are Google's budget pixels worth it?

One of Google's most famous consumer tech devices is the Pixel series, which gave the world a pure Android smartphone straight from the source but later launched its budget versions as well. The initial release of the Pixel 4a and Pixel 4a 5G four years ago was a turning point for the company, particularly because it made the device affordable while still offering renowned performance.

With the launch of the “A” series under Pixel, Google is consistently focused on offering the cheaper version of the device in its releases without sacrificing the Android experience, as well as renowned camera systems for everyday use. However, Google's Pixel A series is known to be a mid-cycle release from the company, and from Pixel 6a onwards there was also an upgrade to the Tensor SoCs.

Reviews have noted that these budget Pixel smartphones are just as functional and feature-rich as their main version and are just lacking in some experiences, but that doesn't necessarily make them a bad device. With fewer fancy features and significantly cheaper prices, the Pixel A series has carved a niche for those who need a no-fuss device and has garnered a following for its new releases.
