Teen allegedly killed sister over 'simple comment' about flushing toilet

A teenager in the US has been accused of stabbing her seven-year-old sister to death in an argument over “a simple tip about flushing the toilet”.

The incident occurred Saturday afternoon at a home in Taylor, Michigan, as the 13-year-old was babysitting her younger sister, Taylor detective Zachary Digiacomo told FOX2Detroit.

“It came from a note that was in the bathroom about how to flush the toilet,” Detective Digiacomo said.

After the verbal disagreement, the 13-year-old allegedly waited until her sister was back in the bathroom to stab her “over 10” times in the neck, stomach and head with a butcher knife and a hunting knife, police said.

The teenager then called her father, followed by emergency services, telling them she had stabbed her sibling.

“She was very calm and just showed no emotion,” Detective Digiacomo said.

The seven-year-old was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

“All I can say is that it is shocking and very tragic,” Detective Digiacomo said.

Authorities have not released the identities of either sister.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, the 13-year-old is facing multiple charges, including first-degree premeditated murder, aggravated murder and first-degree child abuse.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy told FOX2 that the older sister will not be tried as an adult and will instead be held in juvenile detention.

“Given her young age, the state would have seven years to diagnose, treat and rehabilitate her before she is compulsorily discharged at the age of 21,” she said.

“Hopefully then she wouldn’t be a danger to others.”

The girls' parents were particularly shocked by the incident, Detective Digiacomo said, as their older daughter had not gotten into trouble at home or at school.

“They just shed light on normal sibling disputes,” he said of what the couple told police.

“As a child, you constantly argue with your siblings, but it doesn’t lead to this.”

The incident also stunned the family's neighbors. One of them, Julie Pagoto, told local station WXYZ that the younger sister was “the sweetest little girl.”

“It was just a very tragic day, a very tragic day for us,” Ms. Pagoto said.

“She used to walk up and down the street on her bike every day… she'd stop and talk to the neighbors… And now she's gone.”
