A fatal crash shut down westbound Loop 202 in Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) – A fatal multi-car crash shut down the westbound lanes of Loop 202 in Phoenix early Saturday morning.

The accident occurred early Sunday morning on Loop 202 near 24th Street.(ADOT)

The accident happened just before 3 a.m. on the Red Mountain Freeway near 24th Street, not far from the mini-stack. Police confirmed that at least one person was killed in the accident.

Traffic cameras in the area showed a heavy police presence as well as several evidence markers on the roadway.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says drivers heading west must exit 32nd Street.

It is currently unclear when these lanes of the highway will be reopened.
