Shooting in Augusta on River Ridge Drive sends woman to hospital

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – One person was injured in a shooting Sunday night in Augusta.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, it happened on Sunday around 6:33 p.m. in the 1000 block of River Ridge Drive.

The victim, a woman, was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Due to the ongoing investigation, no further information is available.

It was the second shooting in Augusta in 24 hours and the second since Hurricane Helene devastated the community.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, the other shooting was reported at 10th and Florence streets just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Upon arrival, officers found a male victim who was deceased.

The shootings take place in the middle of a Violent crime outbreak that killed more than 180 people across the CSRA in just over two years.

The crime outbreak has hit communities large and small, but as the region's largest city, Augusta has been hit particularly hard.
