'Dangerous' man arrested after sting operation in Dutchess

A “dangerous drug dealer” is accused of selling drugs to “dangerous community members” in the Hudson Valley.

A suspected drug dealer is facing charges after his arrest in Poughkeepsie.

The Dutchess County District Attorney's Office Drug Task Force reports that officers have been investigating “dangerous drug dealers” operating in or near Poughkeepsie Housing Authority facilities and throughout the City of Poughkeepsie.

On Thursday, 66-year-old Victor Smith was taken into custody. The Poughkeepsie man was accused of:

  • 1 count of 3rd degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, a Class B felony
  • 1 felony count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 4th degree with 1/8 ounce or more
    Narcotics, a Class C felony.

Officials allege that Smith sold cocaine to “at-risk community members” from the Phillip Allen Swartz Facility at 378 Mansion Street in the City of Poughkeepsie.

“The arrest and search warrant resulted in the seizure of crack cocaine that Mr. Smith had manufactured or 'cooked' at the residence to sell,” the said
The Dutchess County District Attorney's Office Drug Task Force said in a news release. “This investigation was initiated after community members reported this activity to the Drug Task Force.”
