New Hampshire man accused of killing grandmother with hammer

A New Hampshire man was taken into custody after being accused of killing his elderly grandmother with a hammer.

According to a report from WGME 13, dispatchers in the town of Easton, New Hampshire received a call about a “medical emergency” on Saturday. New Hampshire State Police and EMS were dispatched to the home on North Peak Drive.

When first responders arrived on scene, they found 76-year-old Cynthia Lanchester dead. Police at the scene reported that it was clear that Lanchester had suffered what was described as “blunt force trauma.”

Police say the woman's grandson, Joshua Lanchester, 23, was also at the scene when they arrived at the home. Police took Joshua Lanchester into custody and subsequently charged him with second-degree murder. Initial findings indicate that Lanchester allegedly used a hammer to kill his grandmother.

WGME reported Monday morning that Lanchester is currently being held behind bars without bail and is expected to make his first court appearance later today.
