Fatal accident on Pickens County highway

One person died in a crash Monday evening in Pickens County, South Carolina, officials said. (Above is the 6 p.m. update on Helene's impact in the Carolinas.) Pickens County Deputy Coroner Andrew Wilson said the crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Highway 123 at Five Forks Road Bridge towards Easley. This is near the Liberty exit. The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a motorcyclist went off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail. According to police, the driver was the only occupant and they died at the scene. There is no further information released at this time.
