The Maui County Fire and Public Safety Department responds to three incidents over the weekend | News, sports, jobs

WAILUKU – Over the weekend, Department of Fire and Public Safety units responded to two fires and a mountain rescue mission, a department news release said.

The first incident of the weekend occurred on Maile Street in Halimalie at 12.40pm on Saturday, September 28, when units responded to a report of a structure fire.

“Firefighters arrived to find a closed garage completely gutted and the fire spreading to the adjacent home.” says the press release about the incident. “Firefighters extended hose lines to extinguish the fire and search the interior of the adjacent home for residents. Everyone was out of the house. The family pet has been safely removed.”

The fire left a total of four residents homeless and no injuries were reported. Units completed their response to the structure fire at approximately 3:54 p.m

The second incident occurred at approximately 7:41 p.m. on Saturday, September 27 in the Nahiku area of ​​Hana Highway when units responded to a report: “A person stranded at the base of a 25- to 30-foot cliff and unable to climb out. After firefighters determined where the person was, they set up a rope system to get to the person and get them back to safety.” says the incident report.

According to the incident report, units completed their response to the incident along Hana Highway at approximately 10:14 p.m. Locomotive 7 responded to the incident alone as part of the mountain rescue service.

On Sunday, September 29, at approximately 4:43 p.m., MFD units responded to reports of a brush fire in the area of ​​Kuihelani Highway and Honoapiilani Highway.

“Firefighters found a fire burning on wasteland” says the incident report. “Hose lines were extended to contain the fire.”

No injuries were reported in the three-hectare fire and no evacuations were carried out. The fire was extinguished at 8 a.m. Monday morning. The Kuihelani Highway toward Kahului was closed for a period of time to allow firefighters to safely work along the road.
