Incident at Willmar Senior High School Homecoming Football Game | News

(Willmar, MN) – The Willmar Police Department was called to assist with crowd control during the school's homecoming game Friday night, according to a joint press release from the Willmar Police Department and Willmar Public Schools. Upon arrival, officers encountered a male juvenile who was wearing a ski mask to conceal his identity. When the officers spoke to him, the teenager tried to grab an object from his waistband and fled on foot. Officers pursued and arrested the individual who resisted arrest. A carpet knife was found on him.

A second juvenile was also involved and the situation required the presence of several officers as a large, unruly crowd had formed around the officers and security personnel.

A 16-year-old Willmar male faces charges of possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds, fleeing on foot, disorderly conduct, concealing identity and obstructing the legal process. A 17-year-old male from Willmar was cited for disorderly conduct. The investigation is ongoing and the Willmar Police Department is actively pursuing all leads. The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office also assisted at the scene.
