Woman who was proposed to in the 'worst' way opens up about why she was wrong in a viral clip

A video on the Internet proves that love will always conquer fear.

A clip posted on TikTok by Jade Gray (@jadeggray) went viral for capturing the moment Gray's now-fiancé proposes to her in a New Zealand restaurant. The catch? Gray always thought a public proposal would embarrass her. Since the video was posted, it has received over 2 million views and more than 270,000 likes on the platform.

“All my life: 'A public proposal is my worst nightmare,'” Gray captioned the video. “I was wrong.”

In the video, Gray and her boyfriend sit in front of a dramatic mountain backdrop at a restaurant in Queenstown. A waitress comes to the table and puts dessert in front of the couple. Gray's plate reads, “Will you marry me?”

Gray was immediately overwhelmed and watched in disbelief as her fiancé sank to one knee. Then it wasn't long before the restaurant erupted in huge applause. One man even decided to take additional photos for the couple from a nearby table.

“The guy next to you takes out his phone to snap more for you,” @_mirandabeeman noted.

“There were so many angles, the team really came through for us.” [memories]”,” Gray wrote in the comments — although she added that her forehead veins were bulging during all the crying and “ruined” the stranger's photos.

Even though Gray's biggest fear was a public proposal, viewers raved about the comments and found the moment perfectly poised.

“Your caption is so true. I feel the same way but that was public but still so private if that makes sense?” @the.cool_mama wrote. “No one bothered you, I love that.”

The restaurant's unique atmosphere also seems to be popular with lovebirds in general: “The morning my husband and I eloped, I was sitting at this exact table in this restaurant. Congratulations!” @aannnniiee wrote.

Ultimately, any fear Gray had was quickly dispelled by the sweetness of the moment – and the shine of the ring.

“He’s perfect,” Gray wrote in the comments. “He knew that the dream ring would overcome my fear of publicly proposing.”

The overwhelming consensus, both from Gray and viewers, was one of admiration for the moment. Gray's fiancé's marriage proposal was a book for the books – and he knew it too.

“His smile just before the plate was put down. I sob. I won’t calm down until I’m loved so loudly,” wrote @tinysfckinwrld.

“The thing is, you can still dislike public suggestions, but when it's the person you love most in the world, nothing or no one else matters anyway,” wrote @huskycanadian.
