15-year-old boy is accused of fatally shooting postal worker Octavia Redmond in West Pullman

A 15-year-old boy is accused of fatally shooting Octavia Redmond as she delivered mail in West Pullman on the Far South Side in July, Chicago police said Tuesday.

The boy, whose name was not released, was arrested Monday in the 800 block of Walford Road in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and extradited to Chicago, authorities said.

He was charged with first-degree murder as a juvenile, police said.

Octavia Redmond, 48, of Chicago, was outside a residence in the 12100 block of South Harvard Avenue when the teenager allegedly shot her around 11:40 a.m. July 19, fire and police officials said. The teen then jumped into a vehicle and sped away westbound on 121st Street, police said.

Redmond suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including to the chest, and was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was later pronounced dead, police said.
