Coperni's spray-on dress was a viral sensation. This gravity-defying gel pouch might be the best

Coperni has yet to decide how many RLP Swipe Bags will go into production, but for Meyer, starting a conversation about these innovations is more important than immediate commercial success. “It's about subtly improving our lives in a way that feels natural. In a way that’s not necessarily obvious, but effective,” he says. “I would like to use the trade fair above all to publicize scientists and technologies that could improve the industry.”

This isn't Coperni's first foray into viral, technology-driven fashion innovation. The brand first gained international recognition for its internet-breaking “Spray Dress,” which captivated audiences at Paris Fashion Week 2022.

Made from a liquid substance called Fabrican, it was sprayed directly onto supermodel Bella Hadid's body and solidified on contact into a wearable garment. The dress generated more than $22 million in media value, but many missed the deeper message behind its creation. Beyond its visual spectacle, the spray dress was a sustainable innovation – machine washable, reliquefiable and reusable.

“We see it as our mission to push the boundaries of what is possible in fashion,” says Meyer. “The duty of a designer is to improve and find new solutions, not only in terms of aesthetics, but also in terms of practicality and sustainability.”

Their iconic Swipe Bag (inspired by the “Swipe to Unlock” symbol on an iPhone) has become a platform for scientific experiments. The founders set new standards in terms of sustainability and wearability every season. Previous collaborations have included a project with Professor Ioannis Michaloudis of the American University of Cyprus to develop a bag made of airgel – a scarce material that is 99 percent air and can withstand temperatures of up to 1,300°C (2,372°F). can has previously been used by NASA in space to collect interstellar dust.

Science fiction fashion

At the heart of these innovations is Meyer's love of science fiction. A self-proclaimed “geek,” he draws inspiration from the imaginative worlds of science fiction, which often serve as blueprints for future technologies. Last season's Coperni collection was an ode to the genre and included references to iconic sci-fi films such as: star Wars, duneAnd The Matrix.

But for the brand, fashion is not just about creating visually stunning pieces, but also about creating worlds that help audiences imagine the future, making it a step more real in the process. “It's nice how sometimes you can do something unfamiliar or unknown, but when emotions are present, people respond well to new ideas,” says Vaillant.

At a time when AI advances regularly exceed public understanding, brands like Coperni and visionaries like Walt Disney remind us that the real magic happens when imagination and innovation combine, and technology then brings those dreams to life.
