Motorcyclist killed in crash that completely shut down Provo intersection

A motorcyclist was fatally injured in an early morning collision with a car in Provo, police said.

According to Provo police, the accident occurred just after 6 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of 800 North and 500 West.

PPD Public Information Officer Janna-Lee Holland said the motorcyclist was traveling south on 500 West when he collided with a vehicle attempting to make a left turn.

She said a witness was the one who initially reported the accident to dispatchers.

The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital and eventually pronounced dead, Holland said.

It was not immediately known whether the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, but Holland noted that the fatal injuries were “not related to helmet use.”

The person has not been publicly identified.

Police said the intersection would reopen at 9 a.m

Holland said police would release a statement later Wednesday morning.
