Ball (20-0-1) was on a three-fight streak last year. He defeated Isaac Dogboe and held Rey Vargas to a controversial draw in the WBC featherweight title fight. Although he came up short against Vargas, he took on WBA champ Raymond Ford in a 5 on 5 Queensberry vs. Matchroom event and prevailed on points.

The still-hungry Ball, the favorite for the first time in a long time, wants to retain the gold while proving his skills in front of family and friends.

“I haven't worked so hard my whole life to get to this point and now let someone take me. That’s definitely not going to happen… He’s just another opponent, to be honest,” Ball said via Boxing Scene. “He’s a fighter who’s coming to me – which I respect – and trying to take my world title from me.”

“It's a chance for him, so he'll try to grab it with both hands, but that won't happen if you face me.”

He lost to Vargas for the WBC super bantamweight title in 2017 and to Murodjon Akhmadaliev for the IBF belt in 2022. His last fight took place in April after a two-year break.

Local gold is at stake on the undercard while several young prospects are ready to impress.
